Challenges after prohibition of antibiotics in feed
Researches and practices have shown that antibiotics used in feed have three major functions:
Bacteriostatic and sterilization to prevent diseases
Adjust the balance of bacteria flora and enhance disease resistance
Improve feed efficiency and promote growth
Problems of piglets after antibiotics free: Vulnerable intestinal structure, intestinal bacteria flora disorder, and lower digestibility and absorption of nutrients
Problems on production after the prohibition of antibiotics:
Increased diarrhea increased incidence of morbidity and mortality, slower growth from farms
Increased complaints of feeds, increased costs and service pressure for feed mills
Importance of gut health under antibiotics-free
Prof. Chen Dai-wen, a famous swine nutritionist, proposed that the key for antibiotics-free is INTESTINE HEALTH.
There are two core elements of intestine health:
Cellular nutrition of intestine: preserve the structural integrity, no damage
Microbial nutrition of intestine: adjusting balance, prevent disorders
The four major elements of the diet design must focus on solving of these two problems: including determination of nutrients and levels, determination of nutrition structure, nutrient source and feed additives. In the context of antibiotics-free, diet design needs to ensure on two critical points: proper combination of protein source to help on intestinal health; reasonable use of feed additives to strengthen intestinal health!
Proper combination of protein source for piglet feed:
on nutritional level: low protein level while high protein efficiency, matching with higher amino acid and energy ratio;
on nutritional structure: a pyramidal supply model of intact protein, small molecule peptides, and amino acids;
on nutritional source: choose a protein that contains less harmful substances, higher digestibility with lower digestive burden, and possible functions to promote intestine development and repair damage.
Small molecular bioactive peptides could be obtained through enzymatic hydrolysis process. A large numbers of studies proved that small molecular bioactive peptides obtains the functions of promoting intestinal growth and development, improve expression of tight junctions, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammation.
Therefore, the application of small molecular bioactive peptides will help on intestinal health and effectively alleviate the pressure of intestinal after prohibition of antibiotics.

Peptide Product from Mytech
Functional protein of Mytech obtains the properties of low ANF, high digestibility, and abundant small molecule bioactive peptides (<1000Da), which helps to reduce intestinal burden, block disturbance, stabilize structure, and enhance protection. Mytech cooperates with well-known animal nutrition research institutions at home and abroad to conduct research on the relationship between peptides and intestinal health of animals, and confirm the application value of its products:
a. Promote epithelial cell proliferation and differentiation and structural integrity of intestine
-- Study in Sichuan Agricultural University (Nursery Piglets)
Published on Journal of Animal Nutrition, impact factor 0.88
Research content: Add 1.5% functional protein to substitute 1% fish meal and 1% soybean meal (diet CP 19%) were added to the nursery feed, and fed for 36 days (from 35d to 70d) to observe the development of intestinal villi and determine the digestibility of feed nutrients.
Result: increase the ratio of villi height to crypt depth, and maintain the structural integrity of intestine vili.
Research results: Improve the digestibility of overall dry matter, organic matter and protein in the feed by more than 5%.
-- Study in Kasetsart University (Nursery Piglets)
Published on Tropical Animal Health and Production, impact factor 1.2
Research content: add 1.5% Mytech peptides to the nursery feed and reduce 1.5% soybean meal (original diet CP 19%). Fed for 35 days (from 28d to 63d). Test the intestinal tissue morphology and diarrhea improvement.
Result 1. Increase the height of intestinal villi and reduce the depth of crypts, the average surface area of villi increases by more than 20%.
Result 2. reduce ammonia emissions by 5%, reduce the relative value of diarrhea rate by 40%, reduce the proportion and degree of diarrhea
b. Enhance the tight links between intestinal cells and reduce the permeability of intestinal epithelium
-- Study in Purdue University
Published on Poultry Science, impact factor 2.42
Research content: Add 0.4% Mytech peptides on top, same nutritional levels in each group, feed from 1d to 21d (challenge on 14d). Measure the expression level of major tight junction protein genes of intestine.
Result: under stress, the expression of Claudin-1 in control group reduced by 20-80%; while there’s almost no decrease or even increase in experiment group. The reduction of stress is detrimental to the increase of intestinal permeability influences.
c. Reduce intestinal inflammation
-- Study in Purdue University
Published on Poultry Science, impact factor 2.42
Research content: Add 0.4% Mytech peptides on top, same nutritional levels in each group, feed from 1d to 21d (challenge on 14d). Measure the expression level of intestinal inflammatory factors.
Results of the study: Pro-inflammatory factors increased 3-5 times under stress in the control group; pro-inflammatory factors increased only 1.5-3 times under stress in the experiment group, which shows Mytech peptides reduces the degree of intestinal inflammation under stress.
d. Enhance the antioxidant capacity of intestinal cells
-- Study in Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (on mice)
This research adopts the regular standard method for evaluation of human foods
Research content: There’re 3 groups in the experiment. One as control group, one negative control group with oxidative stress, and one experiment group add 1.6% Mytech peptides. Then test and determine the blood oxidation products and anti-oxidation related indicators.
Result: Mytech peptides significantly reduces the content of oxidative damage products by 10-20%, anti-oxidation related indicators increase by 10-15%, which indicates that Mytech peptides improves antioxidant capacity and relieves oxidative damage.
-- Study in Sichuan Agricultural University (nursery piglets)
Published on Feed Research, impact factor 0.68
Research content: Add 1.5% Mytech peptides on top of nursery feed and conducted for 30 days. Then test and determine the intestinal antioxidant index.
Result: Intestinal antioxidant capacity increased by more than 20%.
