1 Background:
Status 1: The high price of feed raw materials leads to an increase of 10-15 yuan/day in the cost of feed per cow
The price of roughage increased by 25%: the import volume of alfalfa increased by 10%, and the import value increased by 30% (the CIF price increased by nearly 25%)
Proportion of roughage to total feed cost: from 29% to 31%
Status 2: There is a risk of supply interruption for imported hay(Due to the international situation and the impact of the epidemic)
[Conclusion] Making good use of domestic roughage resources and reducing dependence on imports is an effective measure to deal with short raw material supply and rising prices!
2 Countermeasures:
Substitute imported roughage with domestic roughage
Replacing conventional roughage with local roughage
[Implicit problem] The amount of low-quality roughage in the feed increases, and the amount of high-quality roughage decreases. Roughage has poor fiber digestibility and poor protein digestibility, reduces MCP and VFA production, and reduces milk yield and milk quality.
3 How to make good use of local roughage:
Method 1: Balance the total NDF level of the diet (the most common method)
Limitation: Due to the different NDF digestibility of different raw materials, formulating diets with total NDF cannot effectively maintain milk production
Method 2: Using undigested NDF (uNDF) to assess the fiber needs of dairy cows
Limitation: Some roughage uNDF data are incomplete
Note: uNDF refers to NDF that cannot be digested by the rumen of dairy cows, which affects the physical efficiency of roughage (rumen filling rate, digestibility, passing rate).
The higher the uNDF value, the more times the cows chewed and ruminated, the slower the feed intake rate, and the longer the forage rumen retention time.
4 Our solutions
Key direction: enhance the rumen fermentation function of dairy cows and improve the digestion ability of dairy cows to roughage
Effective functional substances (CEP,Cottonseed enzymatic protein): promote the proliferation of rumen microorganisms, especially increase the number of microbes that digest fiber, improve fiber digestibility, increase MCP and VFA, and increase milk production
pH value:
The pH value of the rumen of the cost reduction program group (B, C) was lower, indicating that the microbial fermentation efficiency was faster and more VFA was produced;
Gas production:
The cost reduction scheme group (B, C) has higher gas production, indicating higher microbial fermentation efficiency and more gas production
